Nigerian artiste WizKid who is Uganda for his second concert has voiced his sentiments on international award organizers who have several times awarded African artistes from the backstage.
Speaking to Ugandan journalists responding to incident where he was given an award backstage at the BET Awards, the multi-award winning artistes strongly criticized the manner in which African artistes are not shown love on international platforms.
“That is why I don’t go to those awards anymore. I don’t take nonsense from anyone that tries to look down on Africa or African entertainment. If you are not going to show us the same love you show your international artistes on the main stage, don’t show us love at all. We don’t want it. We have our people and we’re content with our own people,” Wizkid said
“Wizkid’s contribution to the Nigerian Music Industry has earned him several achievements. He is the recipient of two BET Awards, three Billboard Music Awards, two iHeartRadio Music Awards, one MTV Europe Music Award, four MTV Africa Music Awards, two SoundCity MVP Awards, three MOBO Awards, six The Headies Awards, two Channel O Music Video Awards, six Nigeria Entertainment Awards, two Ghana Music Awards, two Dynamix All Youth Awards, two City People Entertainment Awards, and a Future Award” – Wikipedia
